West Ham United Foundation (WHUF) is seeking a Twinning Project Literacy Tutor to deliver both Functional Skills English Level 1 and FA level 1 in Coaching Football in conjunction with the HM Prison & Probation Service Twinning Project at HMP Chelmsford. This is a unique project and an opportunity to directly contribute positively to the lives of those within the prison service. The Twinning Project is a partnership between HM Prison and Probation Service (HMPPS) and professional football clubs with the objective of twinning every prison in England and Wales with a local professional football club. The successful candidate will have knowledge of English language skills/football coaching and an understanding in the course content to be able to deliver to at least a level 1. You will need an ability to motivate and engage learners, have the skills and experience to effectively work within the prison environment and be committed to supporting WHUF’s vision and mission.
Responsibilities:
Reporting to the Employability and Academy Link Mentor, the Twinning Project Literacy Tutor will:
Work with cohorts of up to 16 inmates to deliver a football literacy and coaching programme within HMP Chelmsford.
Ensure effective delivery of Functional Skills English Level 1 and FA level 1 in Coaching Football in accordance with the schemes provided.
* Plan a range of different football/literacy activities designed to engage learners.
Conduct regular marking and assessment of all work and provide productive feedback as appropriate to each learner.
Work effectively in partnership with the prison service and all other internal and external partners.
Complete administration duties to support course delivery and accreditation.
Ensure appropriate processes and documentation are in place to deliver a safe programme.
Undertake professional development by participating in staff development (CPD) and training activities.
Any other duties as reasonably requested by the line manager / organisation.
Personal Specification The ideal candidate will have skills and experience in the following areas:
- Education/Qualifications/Experience:
FA Level 2 in Coaching Football Award.
Experience of delivering football qualifications to adults in an education setting.
Minimum grade C (or equivalent) GCSE in English and Maths.
Experience of delivering qualifications to adults in an education setting.
Experience of working within the criminal justice system.
Understanding of the issues and barriers impacting on education within the criminal justice system.
