The award-winning West Ham United Foundation (WHUF) is seeking a Fundraising Manager to lead on all unrestricted funding for the organisation.

Reporting to the Head of Marketing and Communications, the Fundraising Manager will be part of West Ham United Foundation’s central team and responsible for building on our existing strategy to maximise the Foundation’s income from a variety of sources.
This includes stewardship of corporate and high value relationships (Friend and Patrons) and the delivery of events to support these. We also aim to develop a Challenge and Community Fundraising strategy and action plan.
The successful candidate will have a proven track record of unrestricted fundraising and commitment to supporting WHUF’s vision and mission.

 
 

Qualifications 

 

Educated to degree level (e.g. Management, Marketing, Communications) or equivalent.

Main Responsibilities

 

  • Act as the lead for unrestricted fundraising initiatives and events
  • Continue to steward our partners including Friends of the Foundation and Patrons
  • Establish a network of high value donors to provide unrestricted donations and support in-kind
  • Deliver fundraising events
  • Develop community and challenge based fundraising activities, building relationships and with the wider WHUFC fan base and raising awareness of our work
  • Contribute to the wider development of the WHU Foundation

*         Identify opportunities to promote the efforts and success of the Foundation

  • Support and lead the administration and maintenance of policies, procedures and frameworks. Maintaining up to date monitoring, databases and key performance indicator decks, and adhering to relevant guidance
  • Ensure all fundraising and income generation complies with national/international legislation to protect the charity and minimise risk and is in accordance with the Foundation and Club’s policy and procedures
  • Consistently maintain a high quality of output, in line with Club and Foundation standards
  • Provide written performance reports and updates to be used for requirements such as funders, partners, Foundation SLT and Trustees

 
 

Friends & Patrons

  • Review and revamp the Friends of the Foundation offer and associated marketing materials
  • Ensure there is promotion of the Friends of the Foundation at key points of the year (e.g. Christmas, Father’s Day)
  • Seek support from Club colleagues to market the Friends of the Foundation and Patrons offer
  • Complete due diligence on potential Friends and Patrons, recorded on the pipeline document
  • Steward existing Friends and Patrons to ensure donation in this financial year, and/or develop into a bigger gift
  • Convert potential Patrons into initial gift
  • Deliver key engagement events: dinners, match experiences, programme visits, Foundation events, etc.

 

Fundraising Events

  • Develop and establish a calendar of fundraising events and initiatives
  • Engage staff, volunteers and supporters in developing and delivering fundraising events
  • Develop a clear budget with anticipated income to show a good return on investment
  • Ensure that all fundraising event activity is compliant with the law and best practice
  • Ensure the health, safety and safeguarding of all participants at fundraising events, including liaising with Head of Operations and Head of Safeguarding, and completing risk assessments
  • Work with Marketing and Communications colleagues to ensure the event reaches the appropriate audience in the lead up to and following the event
  • Steward event attendees in the lead up to and following the event to ensure that all opportunities are taken to convert participants to supporters (donors)

 
 

Community & Challenge

  • Work with colleagues within the Foundation and Club to maximise fan-facing fundraising opportunities
  • Recruit, manage, retain, supervise and develop a network of fundraising volunteers
  • Inspire, motivate and develop the Foundation staff and volunteer workforce and maximise their contribution to fundraising activities
  • Ensure that all challenge and community fundraising activity is compliant with the law and best practice, including the Fundraising Regulator’s Code of Practice
  • Providing exceptional supporter care, maximising funds, building relationships, motivating, stewarding and nurturing all donors to ensure they have an exceptional experience of WHU Foundation

 

Other Responsibilities

  • Complete all Risk Assessment procedures and protocols using the internal systems
  • To develop and manage professional relationships with stakeholders
  • To work with line manager and/or Senior Leadership Team to identify areas of growth for the organisation
  • Any other duties as reasonably requested by the line manager and/or organisation.

 

Safeguarding
1. Staff must evidence a commitment to the safety and welfare of children, young people, and adults at risk regardless of their age, gender, language, religion, ethnic background, or sexual identity and ensure the safety and protection of all children, young people and adults at risk taking part in any activity arranged by or in the name of the Club.

 

2. It is a requirement for staff to follow the Club’s Safeguarding reporting procedures to report without delay, allegations of abuse, poor practice or which is or may, impact on the welfare of a child, young person, or adult at risk. After contacting and taking guidance from the Safeguarding Team, staff must use the Club’s Child Protection Online Management System (CPOMS) to record the concern within 24 hours unless directed to do otherwise.

 

3. Ensure implementation of the club’s health & safety, safeguarding, welfare and equality policies to create a safe working environment for all.

Essential
 

  • Creative, analytical and dynamic
  • Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills for a variety of audiences
  • Strong understanding of the third sector
  • Experience in developing and maintain stakeholder relationships
  • Good working knowledge if Microsoft Office software suite
  • Availability to work flexible hours on evening and weekends when required
