Job summary


An exciting opportunity has become available at West Ham United Football Club and are seeking an Assistant Head of Coaching to improve the quality and effectives of coaching from 9-14s and to develop coaches so that they improve and perform to the best of their potential and are consequently able to maximise the potential of the players that they work with. The successful candidate will support and help drive a culture of learning within the environment and to consistently produce work of the highest standards in all areas of the department

Key Responsibilities:


·       To support & help drive a culture of learning within the academy environment.

·       The 9-14 coaches having a clear understanding and acceptance of their development needs through an Individual Development Plan

·       To develop & support the coaches to be self-reflective that improve player development by holding required qualifications and up-to-date licencing

·       To consistently produce work of the highest standards in all areas of the department ensuring programmes being designed & delivered meet that

·       Each coach in the 9-14s to have a filmed mic session every 8 weeks with statistics

·       To ensure the alignment of Coaching Curriculum with Playing and Coaching Philosophy supported by The West Ham Way is seen in both training and games

·       To ensure to develop self through programmes such as EHOC /and others to ensure staying ahead with coach development

·       Develop a CPD programme that supports the development of the coaching team in the 9-14s age groups


Standard Responsibilities:



·       Work with individual coaches on the pitch in training and games

·       Use a variety of ways to feedback to the coaches to promote self-re-flection

·       Work across all 9-14 phases to ensure some quality assurance & consistency

·       Manage and support phase lead coaches for them run their phases

·       Work across departments to ensure we are collaborating and being more aligned


8 Weekly Blocks:

·       To Review each phase with the phase lead and give feedback using data

·       Deliver CPD to both full and part time coaches

·       Attend self-development opportunities and share the learning with staff

·       Ensure have led both training and games to role modal behaviour for the coaches to observe

·       Plan for the next block ensuring have used the review meetings to target certain outcomes







·       Yearly appraisals for with all staff who report into you

·       Review and feedback to HOC the data on which coaches you have been worked with

·       Create a new Individual Development plan for each coach after appraisal meetings

·       Work with the HOC to update football document that is submitted to PL/UEFA for our coaching licence

·       Review and adapt all coaching documents to ensure up to date

Person Specification

The ideal candidate will have skills and experience in the following areas: - Essential (E) Desirable (D)




·       Level 4 (UEFA A) Coaching Certificate (E)

·       Advanced Youth Award (E)

·       Emergency Aid Certificate (E)

·       Minimum two years previous experience in similar role. (E)

·       Member of the FA Coaches Club (D)

·       Enhanced DBS (or ability to obtain one) (E)
